Happy New Year!
The beginning of the year is my favorite time! Everyone has new goals and resolutions still fresh in their minds and they are sticking with them! Health and weight loss is usually at the top of most peoples lists each year. Gyms are packed the first few weeks of the year and then the difficulty of the task at hand begins to take over, life gets in the way and many people lose sight of those goals and resolutions.
One frustration I hear so often that causes people to lose motivation with weight loss goals is, “I’ve been eating healthy for weeks and haven’t lost a pound!” or “I’m only eating X amount of calories and my weight loss plateaued!” If this is you, then you may have an issue with inflammation.
When we eat foods that do not agree with our body, inflammation occurs. After years of eating foods that cause our body to have an inflammatory reaction, chronic inflammation sets in. It becomes increasingly hard to lose weight when we are in that chronic inflammatory state.
Now you may be saying, “No way Dr. Neumann, all I eat are fruits and veggies! Those aren’t going to cause inflammation!” And of course I will say, well every single body in this world reacts to things in different ways. I’ve seen patients have inflammatory reactions to blueberries. Yes, BLUEBERRIES! So even foods we think are good for us can be the culprit of our chronic inflammation.
If you’ve read this far, you’re probably wondering how the heck you can determine what you’re body is reacting to. And to that I say, just a simple blood test! If you saw my email about my functional medicine certification, this is one of the components we take a look at when you join me in the functional medicine health and wellness process. If you’re really looking to achieve those health goals in 2019, lets set up an appointment to dig deeper and get you where you want to be!
